Evaluations

Comprehensive Speech, Language, Reading, and Writing Evaluations

Comprehensive Speech, Language, Reading, and Writing Evaluations are designed to assess all areas of a student’s language system that are important for being successful in school. These evaluations provide in-depth assessment of an individual’s spoken and written language skills and abilities in the following areas:

 

Language/Listening Comprehension

Vocabulary knowledge; understanding of word relationships, sentences with various grammatical structures/complex syntax, multi-step directions, and stories; higher-order skills (inferencing, understanding of figurative language & multiple meanings, etc.); verbal memory

 

Expressive Language

Vocabulary/word retrieval; spoken language formulation; sentence generation; knowledge/use of grammar; narrative organization/production

 

Reading

Reading readiness skills (letters and their corresponding sounds); decoding; word recognition; reading fluency; reading comprehension

 

Writing 

Spelling; sentence generation; organization/production of narratives, paragraphs, and/or multi-paragraph essays; writing mechanics

 

Phonological Processing / Memory / Awareness and Rapid Naming

Oral language skills and abilities that the research shows are critical for acquiring basic reading skills

 

Social Communication / Pragmatics

 

Articulation / Speech Production

In addition to direct testing, all of the evaluations include a parent feedback conference and generation of a comprehensive written report that includes an in-depth discussion of test results, academic implications, and detailed therapeutic/educational recommendations.
